Gujarat has over 53,000 Anganwadis and is well-placed to lead the way in improving early childhood care and nutrition. With growing cities and changing climate conditions, there is a strong opportunity to build better Anganwadis—centres that are safe, child-friendly, and built to last. By focusing on smart, sustainable design, Gujarat can create inspiring spaces for young children and communities across the state.

SMART Anganganwadi aimed to provide quality services to children and adolescent girls in the area for their healthy growth and development. The purpose of this activity is to create model Anganwadi Centres that provide a conducive environment for children and adolescents to learn good nutrition practices, develop skills, and receive nutritious food. Renovations included the white washing and painting of each center, along with essential plumbing and repair work. The project will also undertake the installation of sinks, cupboards, and other features for the safe storage of provisions. Besides tools such as LED TV screens, improved plumbing and storage capacity, the centre had also been equipped with creative communications materials to inform students about good health practices, nutrition and overall development.
